Donnelly T, et al. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-221528 Description We present very interesting X-ray images of a 96-year-old woman with previous neck of femur fracture treated with Thompson’s hip hemiarthroplasty 45 years ago with excellent clinical outcomes, making it one of the longest reported follow-up in the literature. She had a recent fall and presented to emergency department with difficulty weight bearing. Her clinical examination revealed symmetrical passive hip range of movements with tenderness in the pubic region. Her medical history included hypertension and left hip neck of femur fracture 45 years ago. She lives alone, fully independent with activities and mobilises independently unaided. Anteroposterior pelvic radiographs (figures 1 and 2) demonstrate left superior and inferior pubic rami fractures with well-fixed left

Unipolar versus Bipolar Uncemented Modular Hemiarthroplasty in Patients with Displaced Femoral Neck Fractures: a Three-year Follow-up
Objective: Fractures of neck of femur are common fractures in the elderly. To keep up an imperative distance from the poor results of internal fixation and early ambulation of patients, hemiarthroplasty is performed. There is a lacking evidence to bolster the choice between unipolar or bipolar hemiarthroplasty, let alone the modularity of modern components. The objective of this study was to as...
متن کاملIn-Hospital Outcomes after Hemiarthroplasty versus Total Hip Arthroplasty for Isolated Femoral Neck Fractures
Background: Previous studies suggest total hip arthroplasty may have some benefits compared to hemi-arthroplasty for displaced intracapsular femoral neck fractures in patients more than 60 years of age. The primary research question of our study was whether in-hospital adverse events, post-operative length of stay (LOS) and mortality in patients 60 year of age or older differed between tot...
متن کاملComparison of outcomes following uncemented hemiarthroplasty and dynamic hip screw in the treatment of displaced subcapital hip fractures in patients aged greater than 70 years.
As health care costs increase, evaluating treatment methods in femoral neck fractures to determine the most effective treatment paradigm will become increasingly important. The current study compared two methods of treatment in similar cohorts of displaced femoral neck fractures. One hundred and twenty two patients were randomly assigned to two groups: In Group A, 62 patients were treated with ...
متن کاملComparative study in surgical outcome of intracapsular fracture neck of femur in active elderly patients treated with hemiarthroplasty with Austin Moore's and bipolar prosthesis.
Fracture neck of femur is most commonly encountered fractures in elderly population. Hemiarthroplasty is generally considered to be the treatment of choice in most active elderly patients. However, there is inadequate evidence to support the choice between unipolar or bipolar prosthesis. This study was conducted to analyze the outcome regarding pain, hip function, complication and acetabular er...

PURPOSE The current study aims to evaluate the clinical and the radiological outcome of bipolar hemiarthroplasty using cementless cone stem to treat osteoporotic femoral neck fracture and compare the results according to the proximal femur geometry. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-five hips (75 patients) that underwent bipolar hemiarthroplasty with cementless cone stem between September 2006 an...
